"The Essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit, and fire." ~ Sharon Ralls Lemon
When first meeting Shelly I knew I wanted to photograph her with her kids. The best part about it was when we finally did schedule it, she invited me out to her home East of Bend. I grew up in East Bend but not this far East. I could still ride my bike to town if I wanted. The Samples family lives about 25 driving minutes from town.On my way out there I took in all of the beauty that comes with driving out East. Big farms and ranches with beautiful barns and lots of land. Imagining myself as a real farmer, not just a wannabe urban farmer with a few chickens and a raised beds.
Upon arriving, I drove up to a small, cozy home with kids outside on the trampoline. Shelly met me at the door. Shelly has four kids. Three at home and one serving in the military. The first thing she asked was if they could take a picture with her son's military picture. Of course. After that we headed outside for a typical Sunday on the ranch with the horses.
When all of our fingers were frozen, we went back inside and the kids all enjoyed Jelly Bellies at the kitchen table. I could've stayed all day. Just following around everyone as they did a little Sunday work and a little Sunday playing. What a joy it was, spending time with this family. I hope to visit them again soon.
